Poll Results PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 06 April 2012 11:17

We recently ran a poll of our users to find out which version of Joomla their website uses. You can see the full results here: http://www.spiralscripts.co.uk/Poll-results/Which-version-of-Joomla-does-your-website-use.html.

One thing to note about these results is that they will be heavily biased towards the latest release of Joomla, 2.5. We are a site that sells Joomla extensions, the majority of our customers will be looking for extensions for a newly built site. For example, in our results there are no Joomla 1.0 sites (we don't sell 1.0 extensions), but there are Joomla 1.0 sites out there somewhere, probably in substantial numbers.

GooglebaseXML for Virtuemart 2 PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 17 March 2012 12:25

We have a new release of our popular extension for Joomla and Virtuemart, GooglebaseXML.

This extension allows you to create an XML product feed for your Virtuemart store for upload to Google Merchant Centre. The latest release, version 3.0.0, for the first time is compatible with Virtuemart 2 and Joomla 2.5 as well as 1.5.

We also have an updated release for Virtuemart 1.1x and Joomla 1.5, version 2.1.0. This includes some minor changes to update the feed to the latest Google feed specification.

The extension includes many features designed to give you an accurate and informative product feed that closely matches the Google feed specs. These include:-

  • Product variant display
  • Support for additional product attributes such as size, color etc
  • Support for the Google Category attribute
  • Additional countries, those supported are now: United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, China, Australia, Brazil, Switzerland and the Czech Republic
  • Support for sale_price, and sale price effective date attributes
  • Additional product images
  • Feed can use Virtuemart product type data fields

For the first time both releases allow you to choose whether or not to display prices including tax by passing this as an URL parameter - useful if you want feeds for both the US and European countries.

VM Modcontroller Pro for Virtuemart 2 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 14 February 2012 11:58

We have a new release of our module controller for Virtuemart, VM Modcontroller Pro. This module allows you to control the display of any other Joomla module on Virtuemart pages. It allows you to assign modules to Virtuemart pages (including specific flypages or browse pages), categories, and shopper groups.

For example, if you just want to show a module on the checkout page, or the main category browse pages, or for a particular category, or even to a particular shopper group, this module allows you to do this.

The new release, version 1.2.0, includes additional options to filter by manufacturer, to exclude specific categories, and to filter by SSL/non-SSL pages. Also for the first time we have a version of the module that is compatible with Virtuemart 2 and Joomla 2.5.

Joomla 2.5 is Released PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 February 2012 18:21

Joomla 2.5 is now released. This is the new stable version of Joomla, with a planned life-cycle of 18 months. Joomla 1.5 is a fine content management system, but, now it is finally here, 2.5 offers many enhancements.

We are in the process of updating all our extensions to work with Joomla 2.5, so far those which are compatible include the following:-

Most of our remaining extensions are designed to work with the Virtuemart e-commerce system as well as Joomla. We are currently updating them to work with both Virtuemart 2.x and Joomla 2.5. Due to the very substantial differences from Virtuemart 1.1.x this will take some time, but we plan to make them available over the course of the next two months.

thumb panelsliderWe are happy to announce the release of our new image slideshow module for Joomla 1.6/1.7/2.5, Mod Panelsider. This module displays your images in an attractive and unusual scrolling javascript slideshow. The display consists of a main image with previews of the previous and next images in two semi-opaque side panels.

This is our first extension release designed specifically for Joomla 2.5: we wanted to take advantage of some of the advanced features only possible with Joomla 2.5.

The module comes in 3 versions: the basic version which requires no external extensions, a version for Ignite Gallery, and a version for FW Gallery.
