I want to use the Featured Items Pro to display small static articles in side modules. There are lots of these and it is smarter to build the content as K2 articles rather than individual modules(the standard K2 module won't display and give me the css control I need)

It all looks good but ...

There does not seem to be a way of switching off the title link on featured articles (this is also a problem with the K2 module).

I can hack your module to do this but is it possible to add this as an option in the standard module. That way I can link when I am featuring articles and not link when I am just displaying a small static message article.

Cheers

Hi Jon,

you don't need to use a hack, you can use template overriding if you want to change the display of the module.

if you look in the module tmpl folder you will see that the templates are called
  • default.php
  • sliderpane.php
  • tabpane.php
  • thumbnails.php

to override one of these, for example the default.php template, all that you need to do is to place a file in your template folder called

html/mod_featureditems_pro/default.php

You can modify layout however you want in that file, eg to delete the heading altogether you would delete the code on line 9

<<?php echo $params->get('headertag','div'); ?> class="featureditemsheading<?php echo $params->get('moduleclass_sfx'); ?>"><a href="<?php echo $item->link; ?>" class="featureditems<?php echo $params->get('moduleclass_sfx'); ?>"><?php echo $item->heading; ?></a></<?php echo $params->get('headertag','div'); ?>>

so that line line becomes just

<div class="featureditems_item<?php echo $params->get('moduleclass_sfx'); ?>">

to just modify it so that it does not show a link you would change the code to

<<?php echo $params->get('headertag','div'); ?> class="featureditemsheading<?php echo $params->get('moduleclass_sfx'); ?>"><?php echo $item->heading; ?></<?php echo $params->get('headertag','div'); ?>>

I should add that we will think about make the title link an option.

The problem is that there are so many possible options for the display, to include them all would make module even more complicated than it already is, so it really depends on the demand for a particular feature. If we add too many options it does run the risk of making it confusing for users.

The great advantage of template overriding is that you can choose exactly the display that you want.

Thanks for the tip. That did work but the better solution was to add a "No Title Links" option to your list.

Now I can have my cake and eat it too

I'll send the modified module to your e-mail address

Cheers
