Our account has been suspended on merchant centre - can this happen because the xml feed isnt complete enough - we only have a few issues now which are image problems "Some of your items have problems related to images links. These might be because of broken image URLs that do work properly, because of missing 'image link' values or because the submitted image URLs are blocked by robots.txt." but apart from that nothing else really.

Basically i am asking can this happen with the feed or will it be our website/business that has issues with regards google TOS?

many thanks,

The XML feed should be complete. We have worked hard to make sure that it should supply the correct information.

It depends what the exact issue is, maybe you can try asking Google for clarification.

If they will give you an example of a broken image link then you can investigate the cause. The feed should display the image URLs that Virtuemart uses, if there is a problem with it using an incorrect URL then we can investigate further.

The other thing that is well worth looking at is your site robots.txt file, the default one that ships with Joomla contains the following:-
User-agent: *
Disallow: /administrator/
Disallow: /cache/
Disallow: /cli/
Disallow: /components/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /installation/
Disallow: /language/
Disallow: /libraries/
Disallow: /logs/
Disallow: /media/
Disallow: /modules/
Disallow: /plugins/
Disallow: /templates/
Disallow: /tmp/

It is the line
Disallow: /images/

that causes a problem, it is telling Googlebot that it should not crawl your site images folder. It is a good idea to delete that line.

Many people consider this to be a Joomla bug, but it is one that still persists even in version 3. There might be reasons why you would not want your images folder crawled by Google but most people probably want the exact opposite!

If you are using Virtuemart 1.1x (which I seem to remember you are), then your shop images are stored in the folder components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/, which is a sub-directory of the components folder, which is also disallowed in the robots.txt file. You can add the line
Allow: /components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/

Also you could add
Allow: /components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/

This should solve the problem. Remember to use a text editor such as notepad to make the changes, not a word processor.

If you use Google Webmaster tools I think they include a robots.txt checker, once you have made the changes you could try looking to see if your image URLS are blocked.
