On the product variant options tab (in the feed options), check that both 'show attributes' and 'show child products' are set to 'yes'.

I re-tested the promotion id, it definitely works, both as a product override and as a custom field, so the problem is with your settings somewhere.

If you require further assistance, please provide some screenshots of your settings, as any advice I can give at the moment is pure guesswork at the moment.

Thanks,

I now have Show Product Attributes set On.

I have applied the custom field to each of the 6 products

The custom field is applied in the feed Product Options

I have created a Product Variant for each and published it.

Results:

1. There is no products output with just the custom field set and Product variants Unpublished.
2. There is product output with just Product Variants published but the custom field not applied to the product itself.
3. There is product output with Product Variants Published and the custom field applied to the product.
4. There is no combination for which I can get all 6 products output.
5. Every config that produces output, displays the same 5 each time.
6. I cannot see anything wrong with the product that does not display. The product has stock and is published.

This is the set I have used in the test feed:

The Seattle Seahawks item is the one that does not display.

Do you perhaps have an unpublished product override for this product? That would stop the product from appearing in the feed.

And to be clear, there is absolutely nothing in the way that the promotion id is implemented that would affect whether or not a product is published in the feed.

If you are using it as a custom field, then you need to apply it to each product variant.

If you are creating it as a product override then you can just apply the promotion id to a parent product.

The only required attribute that has been included is promotion_id ( support.google.com/merchants/answer/2906014 )

Presumably, the attributes not required can be switched off?

So, I have added a promotion (approved) but cannot see how to map the feed to it.

Can you advise?

Where did you submit it to? It sounds like you submitted it to somewhere that was expecting a feed in a completely different format.

The GooglebaseXML supplies a product data feed for Google Shopping: support.google.com/merchants/answer/7052...976776&hl=en-GB&rd=1

It can't produce a feed in any arbitrary specification. It looks like you were trying to submit a promotion feed, this is the format for a promotion feed: support.google.com/merchants/answer/2906...GB&ref_topic=7322920

You might try just submitting the promotion feed as a tab-delimited feed. From what I can see you just need to supply the following info in a spreadsheet:

promotion_id [promotion_id]
product_applicability [product_applicability]
offer_type [offer_type]
long_title [long_title]
promotion_effective_dates [promotion_effective_dates]
redemption_channel [redemption_channel]

Unfortunately the actual example of a tab-delimited file referred to here seems to be incorrect: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/2906014 , it looks like a product data feed. I can see why you were confused by this, it looks like Google have messed up their documentation.

But I think that if you just created a spreadsheet with the named columns above then you should be able to submit it.

Then because you now have the promotion_id supported in the GooglebaseXML feed which you would submit as a normal data feed, the products affected would be linked to the promotion.

We could look at incorporating promotion feeds into the Googlebase functionality in the future, but to do this now we would really need to do this as a custom programming job.

I found this, which explains promotions quite well: https://www.hallaminternet.com/google-merchant-promotions-how-to-set-them-up/

It sounds like you already succeeded in creating the promotion in Google Merchant centre. So no need to submit a promotions feed.

So far as I can see, all that you need to do now is make sure that the promotion id which you have created is attached to the products that you want to promote, either as an override or as a custom field. It sounds like you have also done this already.

Then submit the GooglebaseXML feed to Google as a product data feed, NOT a promotions feed.

Thanks for your efforts. The Hallam page seems quite informative, too.

Yes a lot more informative than Google.

I would be interested to be updated on your progress on this.

My understanding now is that, if you have a normal product data feed which you have already submitted to Google merchant centre and had accepted, and you want to run a promotion, then all that you need to do is:-

1. Create the promotion in Google merchant centre.
2. When that has been accepted, just add the promotion id in the GooglebaseXML feed to the products that you want to promote, either with a custom field or a product override.

So it is actually fairly simple, not nearly as complicated as Google make it seem.

We will think about adding a promotions feed. But unless you are running a lot of promotions there is probably not much value in having one. And even then, because you have to wait to see if the promotion is accepted by Google, you might as well create it in Google merchant centre anyway. So I don't see the actual point.

Ok, so on GMC, I set up a supplemental feed for these products.

The promotion had already been accepted.

I associated the supplemental feed to what I thought was the relevant primary feed.

I generated the xml (or was it a csv) from GoogleBaseXML and uploaded it.

The file was accepted but the 6 products were not.

As with most things Google, it is so automated and robotic, it is difficult to know why something has failed.

I am away right now so will continue to test upon my return.

Any thoughts?
